CST SUPPORT WOMEN IN MOTORSPORTS

It is no secret, that we here at Copenhagen Sensor Technology (CST) are huge tech-nerds in many senses of the word – both when it comes to high-performance electro-optical solutions for demanding military industry – but also when it comes to cars and motorsports. CST has been a proud sponsor for Michelle Gatting for many years now, because we have a longtime burning passion for motorsports and especially equality for women in motorsport.

Michelle Gatting is a young, Danish, 25-year-old girl with a huge natural talent for motorsports. Søren Høiberg, founder of CST, has followed the young Danish talent on the racing tracks, ever since she was just a little girl, who raced go-karts. Michelle actually used to race against Kevin Magnussen, the now famous Formula 1 driver, in her early days at the go-karts tracks – and have beaten him once or twice.
This weekend she will debut at the world-famous 24h Le Mans race in France, and CST will of course follow the event closely beside the pit-crew and cheer Michelle on from the sideline.

Last week Michelle came by our office in Herlev, Denmark, to say hello and tell us a bit about the upcoming Le Mans race as well as the challenges of being a young female racecar driver in a vastly male dominated sport. She and two other female drivers will be racing for team Kessel Racing (Number 83) – they are the only entirely female team at Le Mans, which is one of the reasons they get a lot of extra attention this year.

The car that Michelle will be racing at Le Mans is a Ferrari 488 GTE that weighs about 1235 kg., has a V8 motor, approx. 500 HP, and a top speed at 300 kph.

CST is proud to announce that we once again have the pleasure to join a strategic partnership with Thales NL for development of an upgrade of the MIRADOR electro-optical sensor system. 

Copenhagen Sensor Technology A/S (CST) and Thales Nederland B.V. (Thales NL) have a long history of collaboration, and after the success with the Thales Goalkeeper close-in weapon systems (CIWS) in which we provided the optical solution, we are proud to have been chosen once again to provide an electro-optical sensor system for the MIRADOR naval observation platform.

The MIRADOR fire control system incorporates the latest technological features such as carbon fiber shell structure and a direct-drive servo system. Thanks to its four sensors MIRADOR is capable of combining optical surveillance and tracking capabilities. It uses two daylight TV cameras (surveillance & tracking), and an IR camera (tracking). An eye-safe laser range finder and an optronic tracking unit ensure that accurate target position indication is carried out. The new and improved upgrade of the MIRADOR electro-optical sensor system will secure an even more precise boresight and optimize the ability to track objects.

New high performance long range Full HD 33x zoom camera

CST is proud to announce our Full HD long range camera.

The Spectrel 121000/340 is an integrated unit, based on a highly sensitive HD megapixel color C-MOS camera and a powerful zoom lens, ideal for day/night coastal surveillance, camp perimeter protection, protecting sensitive infrastructures and similar applications.

It is designed to deliver high-performance images, even under the harshest conditions, in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +70°C.

Copenhagen Sensor Technology A/S selected for Irish MoD LSAS program

Copenhagen Sensor Technology A/S (CST) has been awarded a contract with General Dynamics European Land Systems – Mowag (GDELS-Mowag) to provide Local Situational Awareness System (LSAS) for the Irish Defence Forces Piranha III APC upgrade. This program is set with a delivery plan from 2017 – 2021.

Following negotiations, CST was selected as the preferred supplier by GDELS-Mowag for the LSAS which will provide local situational awareness for each vehicle consisting of both day & night capacity, IR lamps, multi-functional digital displays, matrix and cable set. Images from all sensors can be shared around the vehicle. The functional display can be customized to suit the user / operator’s requirements and multiple images can be viewed on screen to provide maximum information as required.

The structure of the system allows the operator to plug and play with different sensors and will allow future updates as required.

All mission systems will include CST’s Citadel Quattour Cam, which can support both day & night operations, colour and thermal imaging capability to enable the driver and crew members of the vehicle to operate safely and with confidence in all weather conditions. In addition, the mission system will consist of Citadel compact cameras to support a 360-degree surveillance in order to secure, as well as support all crew members during operations.

CST builds upon systems delivered to other customers worldwide, to provide situational awareness systems to the vehicle crew-members with key-words being safety for operators.

Copenhagen Sensor Technology teams up with Leonardo-Finmeccanica to deliver a GVA mission system for the Danish Army’s vehicle fleet

Leonardo MW Ltd, formerly known as Selex ES Ltd, has signed a contract with the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) to provide Vehicle Mission Systems for the Danish Army’s land vehicles.

Copenhagen Sensor Technology (hereafter CST) will deliver Citadel Panoramic and Citadel Compactcameras for Leonardo’s Driver Night Vision System (DNVS4).
The cameras will be fitted on several platforms, where Piranha V APC is among the selected vehicles.

The first production order is expected immediately, while the whole framework contract will run for several years with a potential to deliver cameras for over 500 of the Danish Army’s land vehicles.

New | Heat Haze Reduction feature in CST cameras

The phenomenon heat haze (also known as heat shimmer) is a common problem when you want to have a clear sight over areas where heat ascend from the ground surface creating heat haze, which blurs the image.

To minimize heat haze disturbance in the image, CST has implemented Heat Haze Reduction as an on/off function in CST cameras, which gives a more stable image to easier identify an object.

New | ALaRs function in CST cameras

ALaRS is the abbreviation of Automatic Light and Resolution system, which optimises the light regulation and resolution, resulting in an improved image quality. CST has implemented ALaRs in all Citadel, Spectrel and Open Frame cameras with a 336 module, to provide our customers with the best possible image quality.

Above images are grabbed from tests without and with ALaRs in broad daylight.

Development of sensors is moving in two directions. One being a higher resolution with smaller pixels and the other is in the direction of more sensitive sensors. Together the two directions demands significantly improved automatic regulation circuits, in order to generate a sharp image from broad daylight down to low light conditions such as starlight, without reducing the details and colour reproduction.

CST has therefore invented the automatic regulation system ALaRs, to cope with the increasing high resolution and sensitive sensors to provide an optimised image quality.

So what is improved compared to normal image regulation?

  • Everything is fully automatic
  • Improved sensitivity
  • A larger dynamic area
  • No image disruption or flashing when exposed of shock and vibration
  • Fast exposure: Leading to a sharper image when there are moving objects
  • Higher resolution during daylight conditions
  • No hunting of the iris regulation when exposed for intense sunlight

New | Open Frame DUAL/336 solution

The Open Frame DUAL/336 consist of two camera modules in one frame unit. Each camera module consist of a 560 TVL 1/3” camera for true day/night operation.

The Open Frame DUAL/336 is designed to operate in harsh environments, such as temperatures ranging from -40°C to +70°C and is therefore suitable for installation in e.g. areas with very warm climate without the expense of installing a cooling system.
